RULES AND REGULATIONS

Eligibility

Accepting Ages from 6-18 (Ages are determined as of June 09, 2024) solo instruments; Piano, String (Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass), Woodwinds, Brass, Harp.

Age Groups:

  • Division I: Ages 6-9

  • Division II: Ages 10-12

  • Division III: Ages 13-15

  • Division IV: Ages 16-18

*The age category is determined based on the competitor's age as of Sunday, June 09, 2024. Proof of age MUST be provided upon request for each competitor (in the Division IV, students must currently be in high school or the home schooling equivalent).

Performance Requirements

  • The application deadline is Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 11:59 pm ET and the late application deadline is Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 11:59 pm ET.

  • Results will be announced on June 30, 2024.

  • Participants must complete and submit the full application at miclotcompetition.org/apply

    • Application questions will include student, parent/guardian, and teacher information.

    • A NON-REFUNDABLE application fee of $130 USD (application before the May 1, 2024 deadline) or $180 USD (late application by the May 11, 2024 deadline) must be paid at the time of application.

    • A confirmation message will be sent once a student’s complete application has been received.

Application Procedures

  • Repertoire: Choose either one solo piece or a movement from a Suite/Sonata/Concerto from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or 20th/21st Century period, with a maximum performance duration of 6 minutes.

  • All performances must be played from memory. Video submission for the online competition will be used for the Winners’ Virtual Concert featuring the First, Second, and Third place Winners (excluding the winners performing at Rockport Music).

  • All repertoires that require accompaniment must be played with an accompanist. 

LIVE Competition
  • The audition will take place at Saturday, June 1 & 8, 2024 at All Saints Parish 1773 Beacon Street Brookline, MA.

  • An individual audition time will be emailed two weeks before the audition date.

  • Please do not make your own cuts for the auditions. Jury will make the cuts, if necessary.

  • The performer needs to submit one score (photocopies allowed) to the jury. 

  • The performer needs to bring his/her own accompanist. If a performer needs an accompanist, please contact Kay@miclot.org

ONLINE Competition
  • The applicants are required to upload a YouTube link in the online application form.

  • All repertoire must be maxed at 6 min

  • The video must be filmed with the performer's face and instrument in the frame at all times. Please record the video in landscape mode.

  • Each work on the video must be a continuous and unedited performance.

  • Videos must NOT BE filmed more than six months prior to submission.

  • Please start the video recording with the performer’s full name, instrument, and age.

  • Contestants should wear their best performance attire.

  • The jury decisions are final.
